Motherhood

UPDATE: Mary Alice slept for a good two hours at a time in her crib ALL night! She woke up at 6:30 and was in the swing asleep by 7:00 and then again at 8:00 and is still sleeping. She is very fussy though and is fighting sleep. Everytime she is up she is crying! Pray we make to 4:30 when Patrick gets home!

Recently I went out and bought a new devotion book. It is Preparing my Heart for Motherhood. I would recommend it to any mother. I have only done 3 days and I have already learned alot. It is amazing how everyday the devotion is EXACTLY what I need to hear for that day.

For instance tomorrow is the first day I will be by myself with Mary Alice. I am not worried about taking care of her, in fact I am actually looking forward to spending the day with her. I am more worried about getting sleep and not being so tired! I not only have to take care of her during the day but most of the night since Patrick needs to get rest so he can work.

Today I read this quote explaining what to "pack" for motherhood, " Pack Light. Anything you pack will be inadequate; plan on needing God. Nothing can prepare you fully. Motherhood is truly walking moment by moment hanging onto the Father. Only He can guide you through."

After reading this I thought WOW... I know for a fact I am going to be tired tomorrow, but God will always be there for me to lean on. He will guide me through the day and will help me make it! If I just keep turning towards Him I shall not fear anything. I also realized that this is one of the times where I feel the closest to God. I do not know how people handle being a parent without knowing God is there for you and He made this beautiful little girl. Not only has Mary Alice bought me closer to Patrick but she has definitely impacted my relationship with God!

So if you could please say a quick prayer for me tonight and tomorrow. Also if you have any advice for how to overcome being sleepy PLEASE leave a comment!

Happy Birthday!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELI!!!!!
Today is Eli's 2nd Birthday! I remember the day he was born. My parents called me at 3:00 in the morning and told me to get up take a shower and drive to the hospital. I was so happy when my mom came out with pictures. Since I lived an hour away I had to go back that night to go to work, so I stayed at the hospital all day with Kelly, Andy and Eli. He was so precious! It has been so neat to watch a boy grow up! My family was so use to girls and Eli is such a joy! I can't wait to watch him play with Mary Alice!

Eli we hope you have a great birthday and a great dig dig party. We hate we are going to miss it!

WE LOVE YOU!!!

Spending Time with Grandparents

Here are pictures of Mary Alice spending time with GeGe, Granddaddy, Granddad and Nana. I do believe she is spoiled!

God's Love

Today GeGe is down here helping out since Nana eventually had to face reality and go to work! This gave me time to go out and run some errands. I didn't really want to leave but I knew I needed to pick up some formula so off I went. While I was out I was listening to the radio and just praising God's name for my beautiful daughter.
I began to think about much I loved her and hate when she is in pain and suffering or upset. I have never loved anyone like I love her and it is amazing how it was an instant love when I first knew she was in me.

This made me think about God's love for me. He loves me with me so much love no matter what I do. He hates to see me in pain and suffering and He is always there for me, just like I will always be there for Mary Alice.

I have to be honest these last 2 weeks have been rough. I haven't gotten much sleep and I have cried many nights. Most of the days I am so tired that I don't get anything done but think about how much sleep I might get that night. Today I realized that this too will pass and I need to enjoy every moment with my precious little girl. I also realized that God is there and loves me so much and will not put me through anything that I cannot overcome. So even though I have now learned to LOVE coffee and only get about 5 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period, I am going to start cherishing all the moments I have with my daughter.

First Sponge Bath

We gave Mary Alice her first sponge bath last weekend (I know I am a little late with the post). She did not really like the bath part but she does love to get her hair washed! I washed her and Patrick held her. During the middle of the bath she decided to use the bathroom all over Patrick and the floor! It was very funny! :)

Here are some pictures!

Labor Story

So I am going to write the labor story. Please do not feel you have to read this, it is more for me to be able to remember what happened.(Although I am sure I will not forget)

Saturday March 7 I woke up and felt different. I knew I had a shower so I had to start feeling better so I tried to just relax. After the shower I relaxed some more but noticed how big my face had gotten. I was so swollen! That night we were suppose to go out with friends to our favorite restaurant but I started having really bad contractions and didn't feel like moving. I called the doctor and she said to just relax and start timing them. They were only coming every 20 minutes so I knew they weren't regular yet. Around 8:00 they started to die down and I only had about 1 every 40 minutes so I went to bed.

I woke up around 2:30 and I was wet. I went to the bathroom and couldn't decide if I had broken my water or not. I called the doctor and she said it could have been my water or it could have been just her pushing on my bladder. While I was on the phone with her I had a pretty heavy contraction and could not talk to her, I knew then that I was in labor. The doctor told me stay at home for about 45 minutes because I could not walk around at home. If they were regular then come to the hospital, if they died down then go back to sleep! Well I had pretty hard contractions for a good 45 minutes! Patrick was timing then and trying to help me calm down. He was also trying to get everything ready. We then decided to head to the hospital. We called my parents and called his parents and off we were went.

We got the hospital and we went to labor and delivery and they had to check everything before they could admit me. Well I do believe I had the SLOWEST nurse during this process. I told the nurse when we got there that Mary Alice was breech, but they didn't check her. The nurse finally found out that my water had broken and then tried to check me. She said she couldn't tell how far I was. By this time I was very ill, in pain, and wanted ice!

They finally moved me to another room and another nurse came in to check me and said I was 3 cm. I told that one as well that I thought she was still breech and would need a c-section but nothing happened! The first nurse then did an ultrasound and said that she was head down. We were both very happy about this! They gave me an iv and started some medicine.

My doctor then came and check me and told me that I was 6-7 cm. WOW.. I sure did dilate fast! She also said the head felt very squishy, so she did an ultrasound and of course she was still breech. The doctor then said we were going to have a c-section and within 5 minutes I had 8-9 people getting me ready for a c-section. I was also very scared but they helped calm me down.

From this point forward I don't really remember everything just seeing her for the first time and getting my spinal. Patrick came in all dressed nicely and we had a little girl in about 5 minutes! It is amazing how fast they can get a baby out of you!

So even though I had to endure labor pain and a c section recovery we have a beautiful little girl!

The "Last" Weekend

This weekend was the last weekend of just us together! This time next week we will have a little baby to hold, kiss, and love! Since it was the last weekend we did many things to get ready!

On Friday my parents came down to help us get ready for Mary Alice. When I got home from work Patrick and my dad were putting our glider together! They also hung the curtains, put the bases in the cars, hung the fan, and did other odd jobs around the house! Thanks dad for your help! :)

My parents said they would take us anywhere to dinner and we first said Saskatoon, but of course we couldn't go there, so we went to Yamato's! It was so good! :) After dinner we to Target to return some things! Here is a picture of Patrick and I before dinner and of the nursery. My mom made the tablecloth for the table. Thanks mom! :)

Saturday my friends from church threw me a shower! Thank you so much Katie for hosting it at your house! :) It was nice to get together with friends from church, work, and grad school! Mary Alice also got many nice things! Here are some pictures.

Saturday night I was in pain all night! I was having pretty hard contractions but they were not regular at all. My doctor said that this was normal and could start happening everyday. Let's hope I make it to Thursday so they can turn her!

Sunday we decided to sleep late. I hated not going to church because it could be awhile before we get to go back, but we needed to rest for our big week and Patrick reminded me that this was the last day that we would get to sleep late for A LONG time so we took advantage of it! We have a low key day planned... Grocery store, lunch, and watching Duke vs. UNC!! GO DUKE! :)

Please continue to pray for us and I promise someone will post pictures on Thursday or Friday. If I don't get to please go to my sisters site which is http://kellys-krazy-kids.blogspot.com/ . I am sure she will try to post some pictures of Mary Alice!

Have a great week!

One More Week

We went to the doctor today and Mary Alice weighs 6 lbs 2 oz and is still breech. Her fluids and everything look great! I am still 2 cm.

We are going to be admitted to the hospital next Thursday morning and our doctor is going to try and turn her. If she turns they will induce me, if she doesn't we will have a c-section. Please start praying that she turns! There is nothing wrong with c sections, I just would rather not have one!

So.. we have one more week of waiting and then she will be here!! To say we are excited is an understatement. We are also very anxious! It is nice to know when my last day of work will be though! It also worked out great that it is a Thursday because Patrick will only have to take one day off to be in the hospital and then we will see about the next week!

So please continue to pray for us and that this next week goes by fast! We are so ready! :)

All Our Bags Are Packed, We are Ready To Go....

All night long I couldn't help but sing that song!! We finally packed our bags and made the list of things to not forget before we get in the car. Now we are really just waiting... I hate this stage because I am not very patient and it seems that the days are going slower and slower. We do still have to put the base in the car but we are waiting on Granddad to help us this weekend.

Usually the days go by fast because I am at work and I am so tired when I get home that I eat dinner and go to bed, but today we had a snow day, although I never saw a snowflake. It seemed like today lasted FOREVER!!!! I tried to sleep as late as I could and then tried to find things to watch on tv. I found out today that as much as I hate going to work everyday because I am so tired there is no way I could stay at home by myself. I would go nuts!!! :)

Our next doctor's appointment is Thursday afternoon so hopefully we will learn more about when and how I will deliver. Patrick and I both think she will come on Sunday during the very end of the Duke/UNC game when it is tied. I have decided if that happens we have to at least have the tv on the game! :)

I hope everyone in the Upstate enjoyed their snow day! This is the one day out of the year that I miss living up there! :)
