A Special Present from a Special Person

As a teacher you always hope that one day you touch a student in a special way. Growing up I had many teachers touch me in a special way that I will never forget. One of those wonderful teachers was my 8th grade English teacher. Since I am a science person I HATED ENGLISH. I always thought I could not write and never really wanted to give it a try. In 8th grade I had the wonderful privilege to have Mrs. Lytle as my English teacher. She taught me that I could write and writing was best done when you wrote about stuff from the heart.

My Mimi had passed away when I was in 6th grade and it was a very tough time for my family and I. My Mimi was my best friend and I always thought that she would live forever. Mrs. Lytle got me to really write with my emotion and most if not all of my writings were about either my Mimi or my family. She really helped me realize that even though my Mimi was not with us anymore she was still watching me and I grieved through my writings in my 8th grade English class.

After 8th grade I really missed Mrs. Lytle and she really helped me realize how great English could be and I believe she helped me to be so successful with English in high school because I learned to not hate the subject!

Now 12 years later Mrs. Lytle is still in my life! She reads my blog and loves to keep up with us on here! It is great to know that one of my favorite teachers likes to know what is going on with my family.

Today when I got home from work Mary Alice had a present on the front porch. When I saw the return address I just smiled SO BIG! Mrs. Lytle sent my little girl a present. I had tears in my eyes. It made me think about how she was such a role model for me when I was in 8th grade and she is still a role model for me as I continue my teaching career. She has helped me realize that I can change at least one student's life like she did for me!

Thank you so Mrs. Lytle for all you have done for me and especially for the beautiful dress for Mary Alice!
Isn't this the most beautiful dress?!

Thank you Mrs. Lytle!
I love my dress!
Thank you for thinking of me!

Oh, Alison, you are so sweet to write such beautiful words about this old teacher! You are one of those students who make teaching a joy. As you know now, a teacher is able to succeed only if the student is receptive. Thank you for the precious picture of Mary Alice. Looks like she likes the paper as much as the dress! I don't know what others say, but I think she looks a lot like you. I definitely see you in that beautiful smile. I hope all of you have a great birthday celebration with Mary Alice.
