Last night around 2:15 a.m. I heard a beeping noise and I just thought it was part of my dream. Well it wasn't it was our smoke detector IN OUR ROOM letting us know the battery had died. Patrick got up and took the battery out but the thing kept beeping because now it needed a battery. Well we didn't have any 9 Volt batteries just sitting around the house, so at 2:30 this morning we got in the car and went to Walgreens!
We were so happy that it is only 5 minutes from our house and is a 24 hour drugstore. We went in bought the battery, put it back in the smoke detector, and were back in the bed by 3:00. Of course we were awake by now so it was really hard to go asleep! The good thing is that today I am off work so I didn't have to get up early, but Patrick was very tired this morning!
So we learned some lessons from this adventure:
1. If we every need anything in the middle of night we can go to Walgreens.
2. Change the smoke detector batteries
3. Also have a 9 volt batteries laying around the house
I hope tonight we get a good night's rest!

This happened to us not too long ago. It is very annoying at 2 in the morning and like you we had no battery!
How funny!! I woulda ripped the thing off the ceiling (or sent Andy to the store). I can't believe you got up and went too.
Hi Ali,
I lurk on your blog from time to time and enjoy hearing about your happenings! Your stories always remind me of when it was just Jay and I and how much fun we had just being married and on our own. It takes me back to a kinder, gentler time before the chaos of two children! Just thought I'd say, "Hi" and let you know I enjoy checking in!
This is too funny. I dont think I would of got up in the middle of the night to go get. I would of threw it outside and got another one the next day. Too funny :) ;)
Every good fireman will tell you to change the batteries in all of your smoke detectors when you change the clock from standard time to daylight savings and then again when you go back to standard time, even if they're not completly dead.
